Halloween Homewares- Spookify your home with my favourite Halloween items

October is here and as we get ready for halloween I share my favourite Halloween Homewares that I’ve come across, to spookify your home.

While many Aussies refuse to embrace Halloween, I’m loving that more and more stores here are getting on board each year. Not only are there plenty of different Halloween decorations, there are also many Halloween homewares availble.

Halloween Candles and Accessories

halloween homewares1. Cross Bones Black Skull Oil Burner from Dusk. Dusk is my favourite go-to store for Halloween homewares and this year is no exception. I really love this oil burner. It’s unique and affordable at only $24.99. The best part is that you can continue using it after Halloween.

2. Pumpkin Crumble Melt 4 pack from Dusk. While you’re there, why not pick up some Pumpkin Crumble melts? I smelled these in store and they smell amazing! Just like a pumpkin pie. Burn time is 10 hours and they are $14.99 for a pack of 4.

3. Bleeding Skull 2 pack from Dusk. I have bought the ‘bleeding’ tapered candles from Dusk a few years ago for Halloween, but these skull ones are even cooler. The inside is red wax and when they melt down they ‘bleed’, hence the name. They are $24.99 for a set of 2.

4. Halloween Glass Tea light Holders from Target (Australia). I saw these tea light holders at Target recently and I thought they were so cute. There are 3 designs available (above) and are crazy affordable at only $3 each!

Halloween Drinkware

1. Skull Shot Glasses Set from Dusk. These shot glasses would be great as display pieces or as intended for shots if you’re having a Halloween party. Not into alcoholic shots? I suggest using them for esspresso shots to make your own Affogato (hot esspresso shot over ice cream) or for surving short black coffee even. Just remember to wrap a serviette around them if using them with hot liquids. They are $19.99 for a set of 4 or currently $15 with any purchase of $40 or more.

2. Witch Cauldren Mug by The Rogue And The Wolf from Beserk. I am loving this cauldren mug from Beserk. It’s so quirky and unique. There are a lot of great Halloween homwewares on the Beserk site. This mug is $24.95 and is quite large as far as mugs go, holding 400ml!

3. Halloween mug from Coles. I saw these in store and they are so cute! There are a few designs avaible other than the one pictured above (I can’t remember excatly, maybe a witch and ghost?), they’re only $5 each in the Halloween section at Coles supermarkets.

4. Skull Sugar Spoon by Suck UK from Beserk. The perfect spoon to go with a Halloween themed mug! With the holes in the spoon, you’re using less sugar than you think. $12.95 may seem like a lot for a tea spoon, but I think it’s worth it for the novelty factor and it’s functionality. (whatever makes you use less sugar has got to be a good thing!)

Note: You can save some money on your Dusk purchases by becoming a Dusk rewards member. I’m not sponsored by Dusk, but I am a member of their rewards program and I think it’s definitely worth it to save a few dollars per item. They also have memer only promotions often as well.

Do you like buying Halloween homewares? or do you just stick to regular decorations?

How To: Halloween Jack O Lantern Pom Pom Decorations

halloween jack o lantern

There are many great Halloween decorations in stores at the moment, but I thought I would show you something that you can make yourself. Halloween Jack O Lantern pom poms! They are easy to make, with easily sourced materials and they are affordable too!

I used to make pom poms out of wool all the time with my sister when I was in primary school. It’s pretty easy to do and they look great when they’re done!

The idea of making Halloween Jack o lantern pom poms popped into my head when walking past a store that was selling orange balls of wool.

What you’ll need:

Some Cardboard (not too thick, but not too thin either)
A pair of sharp scissors
Orange wool
Black cardstock
A glue gun or PVA Glue

1. Trace a circle onto two pieces of cardboard, you could use a drinking glass or jar depending on how big you want your pom pom to be. Then trace a smaller circle in the middle of each of the larger circles (I used the bottom of a shot glass, but a milk lid would work too) Cut each of the circles out. You may want to cut only one center circle out and trace it on to the second, so that they line up.

2. Tie one end of the wool around the two circles, with the not on at the edge of the inner circle.

3. Wind up some wool in a small ball, small enough to fit through the hole.

4. Start winding the wool around the circles, passing the ball of wool through the hole and making sure the wool is close together. Keep winding the wool around and around until the hole gets smaller and smaller-this bit can be a little tedious. You want to wind the wool as much as possible so that you have a ‘fuller’ pom pom. Don’t worry if you run out of wool, just make another little ball and tie it on to the end (again keeping the knot towards the center)

5. When you have finished winding the wool, thread the end under one of the strands and tie it off. Now for the fun part! Start cutting the edges between the cardboard circles.

6. Once you have cut all the way around, take a long piece of wool and tie it between the cardboard circles (this will stop your pom pom from falling apart). Gently ease the wool through the cardboard, then fluff up your pom pom.

7. To finish of cut out some triangles for the eyes and a zig-zag shape for the mouth out of the black card stock and glue them onto the pom pom. You may need to squish some of the strands down to stick them on.

Now you can hang them around the house! You could also make other Halloween ‘creatures’ with different coloured wool…maybe a witch with green wool, a spider or bat with black wool. Any scary creature really, it is up to your imagination!
