Prize mail from Makeupnet

Today I received my prize in the mail from makeupnet.com.au’s Halloween competition that they ran through their Facebook page .

The prize was a $50 shopping spree for their online store. I chose some NYX eye shadows, a NYX cream blush and Mini Kabuki brush.

The makeup came nicely packed in a plastic bag tied with a red ribbon, which I thought was a nice touch.

I don’t normally go for such bright eye shadow colours such as yellow or orange, but I had a makeup look in mind that I wanted to try out with those colours.

The look was inspired by one of the makeup looks that appears on the front cover of the Myer Mybeauty catalogue.

What I used to create the look:

Covergirl & Olay simply ageless foundation in ‘ivory’
Covergirl & Olay simply ageless eye concealer
Australis Primer
NYX Single Eye Shadow Golden Orange
NYX Single Eye Shadow Yellow Funk
Maybelline NY Line Definer liquid eyeliner in ‘Black’
Savvy by DB blush in ‘Peach’
Designer Brands lip pencil in ‘Raspberry’
BYS lipstick in ‘Sassy Salmon’
The last item I used was YSL- Yves Saint Laurent volume mascara in ‘Deep black’
This mascara is amazing! Unlike other mascaras, it doesn’t have the same smell…it smells almost perfumed! It did tend to clump a little at first, but after that it worked alright. It’s such a smooth formula and I don’t even notice I have it on. At the RRP of $52 it’s a little pricey, but worth it if you can afford it. I won this mascara from FashionTrend magazine, along with their current issue.

The verdict on NYX? I am yet to try the cream blush, but I loved the eye shadows. They are so smooth, vibrant and very pigmented!

If you would like to purchase some for yourself I recommend that you do from Makeupnet.com.au. Not only do makeup net sell NYX, they also sell brands such as Lime crime and Madusa makeup.

Before I forget…I suggest you check out my friend’s blog post titled ‘5 Things That You Don’t Want To Hear When You’re Upset’ I think everyone should read this, it is SO true and perhaps it may help some people to be a better friend 😉

  1. Hey wow, I remember I used to be really obsessed with doing bright-ass coloured looks, but don’t really go out enough to wear crazy stuff like that … but I wanted to say, it looks like you’ve done a great job at blending the colours… It annoys me when people use vibrant colours but they aren’t blended well.
It’s a bit on the pricey side, but if you get a chance try to get a tube of MAC’s “paint” its the best base for eyeshadow I’ve ever used and I’ve never found anything that can even compare. I have a brown “paint” and also a beige one. You use it as a base for eyeshadow and your eyeshadow will never crease or fade. I use mine every single day that I’m working or whatever and my make up lasts right up until its time to wash it off.

My favourite mascara was by prescriptives but unfortunately my make up artist friend told me the company went under. So now I dunno what to use!! My boss bought me a mirronesse Mascara for my birthday but I still dunno how I feel about it! Makes my eyelashes look really long though.

And lastly, I wanted to say, vibrant colours make your eyes look even more blue than they are!!

And thanks for the mention to my blog! haha, “perhaps it may make people be a better friend” haha we can only hope!

    • thanks! 😀 yeah, I used to wear bright blue in the 90’s lol though colour blocking seems to be in for makeup too now…many makeup artists used to say “don’t wear a bold lip if you have bold eyes” I guess that doesn’t apply any more!
I’ve heard a lot about the mac paint pots and also Mac pigments…napoleon perdis have some good shadows too, I like the color discs (they’re like $29 each though) why I only own two haha. I always use eye primer so it doesn’t crease and all that, but thanks for the tip! I’ll try mac stuff one day…when I’m not poor lol

I’m always trying new mascaras, I have about 5 at the moment Haha…I heard the Australis TLC one is meant to be pretty good. The one I used to use all the time was the lash stiletto.

I was thinking about the contrasting colours actually, apparently orange makes blue eyes stand out more than if you matched the colour.I am liking the orange on me, it DOES make my eyes look more blue!

You’re welcome…pretty much all those things that you mentioned have been said to me at one point or another when I’ve been upset/angry and I felt like saying STFU! haha

  2. Good review and great use of the colours..thanks for joining in on the fun. Love to see you post the pics on our page and any others you create using these colours. I have posted the link to your blog on our page..

Our Medusa Mascaras come in 4 colours so maybe next time you need mascaras you can try these..we do nthe 4 colours for $28.00 the set. Comes in Blue, Purple, Black & Green..

    • Thanks so much! Will definitely post a few pics when I try out some more makeup looks….I was thinking of purchasing one of the Madusa mascaras actually! I really Like the purple, very different and I haven’t tried coloured mascara before. xoxo Evelyn
